Wednesday night Race Re-Cap 11/3/10

Another great night of racing 68 entries and 8 FULL heats

Stock Truck: So Brian Halverson shows up early to get some laps in on this layout, something he usually does not ever do, I hear the timer saying “21.7, 21.8, 21.7” … I think “Great” he just shows up and goes fast and I need to figure out a way to beat this guy in my own house… First round of qualifying I’m in the lead, he’s in the lead, Geos in the lead, back and forth until Brian and Geo punt each other and I get the win and TQ. Ok so far so good. In the main I got off to a good start and pulled about a 3 sec lead on the field in the first lap, 4 min into the race I still only have a 3 sec lead, then it happens, Brian and Geo (The Kyosho Boys) rail each other allowing me to get away and take the win, thanks for wrecking each other guys, my team needed the points!

Mod Buggy:
Hartson TQ’d going 16 5:18 (fastest time to date ) in another very full heat of 11 cars. Walnuts and Smalley were not far off the pace both qualifying with 15 laps. In the main Hartson got a great start doing back to back 19 sec laps then it happened “The Hartson curse” hitting a pipe, flipping over and the Nuts makes a move to the front. Hartson back on his wheels charges and catches up with Nuts quickly but Nuts holds him off for 7 laps until Hartson jumps past him in the whoop section to take the lead. ½ lap later Hartson runs into Nick Black in the berm, Nuts gets by him again, holds him off for 2 more laps, Hartson makes a great move at the end of the straight to take back the lead on the last lap then it happens (again)…. Hartson driving at light speed clips a pipe in the center high speed section does a double barrel roll with a twist and before he can hit the ground… The Nuts goes by to take the win!

Stock Buggy:
10 cars in this one as Dillon Davies took the TQ last night going 14 5:05 with Gonzo right behind him going 14 5:09 In the main Dillon led the race for 4 laps until an unscheduled pit stop that took 73 sec occurred (not a bad time if we were talking Nascar) allowing Kermit to take the lead and hold it for 4 laps. Kerm flipped on the Berm (funny huh?) allowing Parro to get by for the lead, Gonzo right on his tail for 3 laps eventually pulled a Hartson, (hit a pipe) and watched as Parro crossed the finish line taking the win!

Pro 2SC: TQ for the night was Casper going 14 5:15 in the new Losi 2wd SC truck with French bread Matt Chapman not too far off doing a 14 5:21. Considering there was 3 4WD SC’s in this race these guys were flying! In the main Casper found himself in the 5 spot after 4 laps while Brian Bembry (4WD) took control of this one never to look back. Casper eventually found his rhythm and clawed his way back to the 2 position right on the bumper of Bembry for the last 2 laps but just didn’t have enough to put it away as he finished 1.5 seconds behind. P Lo and Matt Chapman also had a great battle for the 3rd and 4th spot finishing only a few seconds behind Bembry and Casper.

Stock SC: Alan Hess, The General Lee and Matt Chapman all qualified well and within a few seconds of each other so I know the main would be a good one. Alan started at the front of the grid but got into trouble early and found himself in 5th after the first lap. Gravelle and Roy Fulk took advantage of Alan’s misfortune and started to run away from the field, unfortunately for Roy his car broke and he was now left to watch in amazement as Lee flawlessly worked his way around the track and traffic (11 Cars) to hold on and win this one by 11 sec. Alan regained his composure and worked his way back to the 2 spot taking it from Art Ruiz on the last lap.

Sportsman 8th Scale: Mike McNasty and Brent Fiege both qualified going 16 laps and only .5 sec apart. In the main McNasty and Fiege battled neck and neck the entire time. Mike held off Brent for the first 8 laps until Brent made a sweet pass taking over the lead only to give it back to Mike 2 laps later. With time on the clock running out both Mike and Brent jumped to the line to make it by for their 22nd lap when it happened… Mike ahead of Brent by about a foot took the inside line and got rear ended by JD (Which is only cool if you’re in a gay bar), and spun over the pipe, Brent flew by taking full advantage of the carnage, finished his last lap taking the win leaving Mike and the McNicksty Posse with second place points in the series.

Thanks for coming out and spending your Wednesday night at OCRC!

Wednesday night Race Re-Cap 10/13/10

WOW another great night of racing 76 entries and 8 FULL heats

Stock Buggy: Well it was Brad Perdiew once again dominating the stock class, after taking a month off of racing he’s back! Brad TQ’d last night with a 13 5:01 in a race with 11 cars making this 2 races days in a row TQ’ing! Brad got off to a good start and held the lead for 5 laps until Shawn Parro who started last on the grid plowed his way thru traffic and took the lead. Shawn would hold on for 7 laps until time expired and he clipped the pipe on the straight, flipped over and Perdiew blew by and took the win.
Nelson who also had a great race finished in the 3rd spot by only .5 sec
Very close racing in this packed heat.

Mod Buggy: Hartson TQ’d going 14 5:05 (fastest time to date) in another very full heat of 10 cars. It wasn’t easy as Smalley and the Nuts were right behind him most of the time in qualifying. When the main came around it was one of the roughest starts I believe I have ever seen in a mod race with just about everybody but Scott Adkins bumping and flipping over. Scott took advantage of the carnage behind him and checked out on the field. Hartson pulled his car off to the corner to take a deep breath and take part in watching the race with the rest of us. Scott held on to the lead for the first 9 laps until Smalley pulled away from the traffic, caught up and eventually passed Scott on lap 9. Smalley went on to win with Scott taking second and Kevin Gahan taking 3rd. Honorable mention goes to Dan Brown who stepped up his game and put a mod motor in his buggy and said goodbye to his Stock buddy’s for good! Dan finished in 4th.

Stock SC: The always fast Ryan Osment was the TQ last night going 13 5:02 with Vivas and Gravelle close behind. Gravelle started 3rd in the main and within 5 laps took over the lead from Ryan and never looked back.
Vivas as always charged hard as well and took the 2nd spot from Ryan on lap 10. With no time on the clock Ryan and Vivas caught up to Gravelle
but just didn’t have enough to overtake him as they all crossed the line in a photo finish Gravelle 13 5:05.4 Vival 13 5:05.7 and Ryan 13 5:06
Once again great racing in this a 12 car main!

Expert 8th Scale: So I went to dinner before racing and when I returned my Hyper 9 was all clean and pretty (and stuff) Nick apparently was tired of me running my “no” shock oil, “no” diff oil and loose screw buggy and decided to do something about it. Turns out that if you do a little maintenance on your car it drives better (who-da-thunk) Well to make a long story short I took the TQ going 15 5:01 over the always fast Brent Fiege and Hordor McMoney. The start of the main was a bit nasty as several cars got bumped and sideways. I was taped into the right direction and pulled away from the pack. After 12 laps I started seeing this UGLY ASS black and florescent yellow RC 8 (Fiege) gaining on me but I wasn’t worried (I was straight up shaking) as I know Brent is fast and could easily catch up and pass me but by the grace of God he had a few not so stellar laps towards the end of the race allowing me to cross the line with the win and bragging rights for at least 1 day. Hordor McMoney who was on Fieges tail most of the main and also got by on the last lap to take the 2nd spot or as I like to say “Mike was the first looser” (Ha Ha!) take that Mugen boy!

Pro 2 SC: Matt Olsen TQ’d going 14 5:20 over another packed and stacked field of 12. Not an easy thing to do when your racing the likes of Saxton, Cavalieri, Anderson, Vivas and Gravelle. The tone sounded for the main and like the previous races everybody pinned it and Vivas got away clean and took the lead. While Vivas was cruising in the front the battle for the top 5 was brutal with Olsen, Cavalieri and Saxton and Gravelle charging to make up for the ugly start they experienced. Vivas held the lead for 11 laps until Cavs and Olsen caught up. It has been my experience that when Cavalieri is behind you it won’t be long before he’s in front of you and that’s what happened as Vivas feeling the pressure flipped over allowing Cavs to take the lead on lap 12 and keep it! Whith all the battling going on Gravelle slowly crept up on the leaders and eventually took the 2nd spot with Vivas taking 3rd.

Pro 4: Kevin Gahan TQ’d in the “not ready for market” Losi 4WD SC car. Going 14 5:03. In the main it was the same story as this car (whenever it does come out) looked awesome and took the win over a field of 10.
Dan Gavere had a great race staying close to Kevin most of the main and finishing only a few sec behind with Doug (Mini truggy) Shelp taking the 3rd spot.

Sportsman 8th Scale: JD Mora took the TQ going 15 5:14.1 with Charley Armes going 15 5:14.4 in the 2nd spot. In the main it was Charley going from 1st to 3rd by lap 3 only to take back the top spot and not give it up by lap 9. Jeff Penny who had some ruff qualifiers drove consistent to take the overall 2nd spot over JD at the end. After watching the qualifying I think there should be a rule that this class should run 2 cell only as to not kill anybody Or maybe it was just the “Bob Johnson” factor last night as Bob-O decided to start racing again scarring the hell out of not just the turn marshals but the crowd as well.

Once again guys, nights like last night make it all worth while!

Wednesday Night Race Re-cap 9/22/10

Stock Buggy: Top qualifier for the night was OCRC’s newest Platinum member Daniel Brown going 16 and 5:15 in his AE T4. But it wasn’t easy as Mark Miller and Brad Perdiew were also very fast in qualifying. Daniel got off to a clean start with Brad close behind, it stayed this way for 4 laps until Brads rear shock broke and he had to pull off and Mark Miller stepped in to take the 2nd spot. Daniel drove clean and made only a few bobbles throughout the race and took the win over Miller by about 4 sec. Sai and Chris Allen also had a great race for 3rd and 4th position with Sai winning that battle by 5 sec.

Mod Buggy: With 5 fast guys in this race Kevin Gahan would take the TQ position running an impressive 17 5:14 in qualifying. Nick Black struggled a bit in qualifying but still managed to qualify right behind Kevin for the main. Kevin got off to a rough start allowing Nick to get by for the lead only to lose it 1 lap later to Marcus Conway. Marcus held on for what probably seemed like an eternity as Black stayed on his tail. Marcus rolled it over and Nick made the pass never to give it up again. Kevin made the pass on Marcus in lap 9 to finish in the 2rd spot behind Nick.

Stock SC: Well it was of course the Vivas and Gravelle show again last night as these two went back and forth swapping the lead in qualifying. Vivas eventually got the TQ over Gravelle by about 8 sec. In the mains Nick and Lee checked out on the field early and as always ran a very close race but in the end it was Vivas taking the win going 16 5:15 followed by Gravelle and Ellis

Pro 2:
The usually unstoppable Lee Gravelle was in fact stopped last night by Nick Vivas running his ½ buggy ½ truck Losi chassis glued together to make a hybrid SC Gravelle took the TQ last night over The Nuts and Vivas but was just too much in the main going 17 5:16 which wasn’t easy as there were 11 cars in this one.
Gravelle held the lead in the main for 5 laps until Vivas took charge and never looked back. Gravelle finished second in front of the Nuts who couldn’t seem to keep his front tires on the dirt. Jeff, Jaime and Radu had a great battle going as well with these guys crossing the stripe separated by less the 1 sec combined.

OFNA Mini Truggy: I would like to thank the OFNA team for coming out last night to showcase their new Hyper TT 4wd 1/10 scale truck. The always tough to beat Randy Kung was your TQ last night going 16 5:01 with Brother Jason and DJ right behind. Randy continued his Hyper TT domination in the main starting in the top spot and holding it for the entire race finishing with a 17 5:05. Tim Dunn started in the 5th spot eventually chipped his way through traffic to take the 2nd spot away from Scott Kerkes on lap 9, Kerkes also had a good main, qualifying in the 6th position and finishing 3rd.
Special thanks to: Randy/Jason Kung, Scott Kerkes, Tim Dunn, DJ, Tim Bump and Dave Starks for putting on a good show!

Sportsman 8th Scale:
Eric Murata was your TQ for the evening going 17 5:16 over JD Mora and Jeff Penny but in the main it was JD Mora making less mistakes then Eric and taking the win going 24 7:10. Murata finished in 2nd about 4 seconds behind with Jeff Penny in the 3rd spot.

Expert 8th Scale:
With the absence of the Professor Mike McMahon has been dominating the expert class TQing last night with a steller 18 5:12 run. Jason Kung also going fast was only 1 sec off the pace. Yours truly qualified 3rd. In the main McMahon made an early mistake allowing Kung to squeeze by for the lead, on lap 2 Mike went a little wide by the start finish line and I squeezed by as well, right behind Kung. I followed Jason for 7 laps until he rolled it over and I got by for the lead where I held on to it for 6 laps… Then it happened… I got Kung Fooded…. Jumping the step up after the drivers stand Jason tried to jump to the inside of me but instead he jumped into me spinning me backwards only to get hit again by McMahon. While I got jammed over a pipe Mike and Jason got away and did battle the rest of the race. Jason bobbled a few times and Mike waited around to see that it was a close race but like they say the “nice guys always finish last” as Jason made a pass on Mike the last lap to get by the line as time ran out and Mike got caught at the line to take 2nd
